With the impressive backdrop of Table Mountain and Table Bay at its feet, Cape Town has to be one of the world’s most stunningly situated cities. It is also blessed with a great climate for much of the year.Whether you like to spend your days shopping and chilling out in the fashionable Waterfront area, visiting the vibrant townships, or making the most of the natural beauty of this region, Cape Town really does have something for every taste.
Cape Peninsula National Park
This National Park encompasses the scenic Peninsula mountain chain that reaches from Signal Hill in the north to Cape Point in the south (about 60km), and is flanked by the Atlantic to the west and False Bay in the east. It includes Table Mountain and the Cape of Good Hope, and is part of the Cape Floral Kingdom owing to its huge diversity of plant species (about 2300 species, of which about 90 are endemic). Mountain fynbos (fine bush) is the main feature of the plantlife here. There are also about 250 bird species, plus a variety of mammals such as baboons, buck and caracal. Cape Point, within the park, boasts the highest sea cliffs in South Africa (249m).
Atlantic and False Bay Seabords
The Cape Peninsula is flanked by the Atlantic on one side and False Bay on the other. Both of these coastlines boast great beaches, such as Clifton, Llandudno, Bakoven and Boulders Beach (where you can see African penguins). There are also pretty fishing villages such as Hout Bay and Kalk Bay.
Within less than an hour’s drive of Cape Town is the beautiful, mountainous wine-growing region of the Cape. Here you will find incredible natural beauty, a rich cultural heritage and world-renowned wines. Explore the ‘wine’ region with its mountain backdrop and fertile vineyards, and towns with well-preserved Cape Dutch, Georgian and Victorian buildings.
